Living-legend Kauto Star is back for another season on the National Hunt circuit after appearing to have lost a step last year, failing to triumph at history's doorstep in the King George VI and the Cheltenham Gold Cup – both times to a plucky six-year-old named Long Run.

They are set for a rematch here, eaturing in a race that may wind up setting the tone on the top level Grade 1 chasing scene throughout the entirety of the 2011/12 jumps racing season. It appears as though punters looking to back Kauto on the juicy 8/1 odds he's been floated at with most major bookmakers will get some encouragement from the latest news emanating from the Nicholls yard.
Ruby Walsh is set to take the irons again on Kauto this season and they'll be getting things off to a rollicking start in the upcoming Betfair Chase at Haydock Park.
Kauto knows his way around the course at Haydock, having conquered the Betfair Chase on several occasions. Should he get the victory here it would be his fourth Betfair Chase and would set him up nicely going into the rest of the season.
Kauto enters the race at his lowest Official Rating since 2006 with a 173 perhaps allowing him to get some more advantageous weights in some of this year's better looking contests. His impressive career resume shows him triumphing again and again over top class jumpers and was only 2011 where he began going off the boil.
He will ultimately pulled up at Punchestown when something was clearly off with him.
Long Run trades as the betting favourite with a 4/6 listing while Diamond Harry and Weird Al carry 7/1 price tags. Kauto Star and Time For Rupert both hover around 8/1 while Rubi Light was removed today.
