Newbury Super Saturday Card May Not Beat the Freeze

The first-class card at Newbury looks to be under threat this weekend as Super Saturday may not be able to beat the freeze. As it currently stands, the exchanges have the fixture odds on to be abandoned. This comes on the heels of several abandonments over the weekend that had actually resulted in the rescheduling of the Scilly Isles Novices' Chase from Sandown.

The betting on whether Super Saturday will go ahead has no trading at 8/11 while yes would pay out at 11/10.

Right now Newbury has had the frost covers on since January 31st with temperatures in Berkshire as low as -4C and sub-zero lows also forecast for Wednesday and Thursday night.

The day's card has several key fixtures set to run including the Grade 1 Betfair Novices' Chase where the likes of Silviniaco Conti, Michael Flips and For Non Stop are all expected to do battle over a tough 2m4f.

The newly-named Betfair Denman Chase is a Grade 2 contest taht has attracted some high quality contenders such as Cheltenham Gold Cup champion Long Run. He's set to tackle What A Friend, Tidal Bay, Little Josh and Carruthers.

The Betfair Super Saturday Chase is a Grade 2 contest where living-legend Kinkeel is set to run against French Opera anfd Sprinter Sacre. Cue Card is also in the mix for this one.

The Grade 3 Betfair Hurdle has Zarkandar stepping up for his seasonal debut along with Raya Star and Get Me Out Of Here.
