So You Think On Target for Champion Stakes

One of the biggest names still making headlines at the tail-end of the flat racing season is the venerable Ballydoyle runner So You Think who heads into the Qipco Champion Stakes as the betting favourite. A beaten fourth in the Arc over going that wasn't to his liking, the New Zealand-bred contender is firming up in price with a number of bookmakers clipping him to 2/1 from 9/4.

Await The Dawn, another runner trained by Aidan O'Brien, will be withdrawn and pointed towards the Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs in early November. Connections asserted that the race was coming up a bit too quickly.

The interesting variable for So You Think is whether punters think he's the significant favourite because of his proven class and reliability or whether it has to do with a lack of genuine challengers in the field. Unbeaten Dubai Prince is expected to be the lead challenger with Nathaniel also a strong selection having proven his ability in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

At this point, the status as Europe's king 10f horse is So You Think's for the taking and, should he make this race look like a formality, you can expect his Breeders' Cup price to plummet like a stone.

At the time of this writing, several bookmakers have taken So You Think's price down to a 5/1 listing for the Breeders' Cup Classic with the betting favourite Uncle Mo currently trading as low as 3/1 with a number of European books. The three-year-old was the big favourite for this year's Kentucky Derby although his campaign was derailed by both illness and injury. He stormed back a few weeks ago to capture his first Grade 1 of the year.

Champion filly Havre De Grace trades at 5/1 for the Classic and will look to assert herself after disposing of the boys back in the Woodward and then taking another Grade 1 a few weeks back.

Several European books are offering 20/1 on a So You Think Champion Stakes/Breeders Cup Classic double.
