2012 Lockinge Stakes Ante Post Odds

The field set to tackle Frankel on his seasonal debut now looks to be no more than eight contenders as the 2012 Lockinge Stakes is set to unfold this Saturday at Newbury Racecourse. Frankel has now been taken into a 2/5 listing by virtually all bookmakers and this one doesn't look to be a walk in the park for the undefeated son of Galileo – he'll be facing off against some seasoned colts and older horses – many of whom already have a race under their belt this season.

The most prominent name on the list is Excelebration, who chased Frankel home unsuccessfully a few times last season, and he's as short as 5/2 with some bookmakers but can still be spotted as high as 3/1 depending on whom you're betting with.
Excelebration, a four-year-old son of Exceed And Excel out of an Indian Ridge mare, captured a relatively straightforward Group 3 contest at the Curragh on his seasonal debut and it will be interesting to see how much he has progressed when compared directly to Frankel.
So You Think is set to run in this one as well and he's been all over the place during the past calendar year and this one is a real wild card as he may just be able to kick on a bit harder than some of the others thanks to his gritty versatility and the fact that he can adapt to various pace scenarios.
Punters will find So You Think priced at about 7/1 or 8/1.
Strong Suit, a four-year-old son of Rahy, is unraced since last year's Breeders' Cup Mile but was able to break his maiden at Newbury a few years back, which should imbue some with enough confidence to back him at 8/1. He will need to have improved significantly if he's likely to step up to Frankel's level and he's priced at around 8/1, similarly to So You Think.
Bullet Train is out there for the Juddmonte yard and he'll likely be serving as a pacemaker should Frankel need one. Expect a 100/1 price as he comes out of the gate.
