A number of racing observers had been banking on Silvestre De Sousa stepping into Richard Hills slot as the stable jockey to Sheikh Hamdan. However, the latest news on the racing wires has confirmed that De Sousa has been offered a full-time position with Godolphin – a deal that he subsequently signed.

The thirty-one year old has had a great six years of riding on English shores and has been hitting form in Dubai during the current Winter Carnival meeting.
Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford presented the offer to De Sousa roughly two weeks ago. De Sousa reportedly took until this past Tuesday to formally accept the offer.
Speaking to the media, De Sousa declared, “Simon offered me the job a couple of weeks ago and I had a few doubts in my mind, but I got up this morning and decided to accept it. It's too big an opportunity for me to miss and I'm delighted to have been given the job.”
De Sousa is confirmed to ride for both Saeed Bin Suroor and his younger counterpart Mahmood Al Zarooni.
The recent confirmation has prompted De Sousa to be eased significantly by Stanjames.com for the 2012 Flat Jockeys' Championship. De Sousa will not be taking as many mounts, particularly at the Northern tracks, so punters can't expect him to be riding for too many other yards.
He will remain as the #1 with Frankie Dettori remaining Godolphin's top choice pilot.
