Nineteen Declared For Arc

With the ground still proving to be a great big question mark in this Sunday's Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp, we've been seeing lots of volatility as one of the year's most popular ante post markets has suddenly kicked into very high gear. Expect a very tumultuous few days as answers emerge about the going conditions and the amunt of watering we can expect from the staff on hand at the venerable French racecourse.

The first stage of declarations has nailed the field down to 19 at this point and virtually all of the major market leaders are still in the mix, despite their prices looking a shade different than they did throughout much of the flat season.
The post position draw is the biggest factor for many with Longchamp very much punishing a wider berth. The €4,000,000 contest still looks to have a few twists and turns to it over the next few days.
Nathaniel emerged onto the scene by proving his staying credentials against older colts in the King George VI Stakes but he hasn't been Arc-nominated and connections will be forced to pay a €100,000 supplementary fee to get him into the post. Concerns about the going have prompted questions about whether connections will pay the supplementary fee to run a horse on unsuitable going.
Nathaniel's price has been one of the most dramatic movers drifting from 5/1 to a settled price of around 16/1 with many bookmakers.
So You Think is also seeing some complications emerging from potential faster going but he has settled back down to a 9/2 listing, quite close to where he's been trading for the past few months.
The pronounced gamble on Snow Fairy continues to build up steam and has dropped from 25/1 with most bookmakers to a price of around 12/1 or 15/1 depending on who you're betting with. The faster going definitely plays in her favour and she's not really had a chance to prove much this year – she'll be in good nick for this one and should run her race if she gets the ground she wants.
Sarafina remains the intriguing favourite with a listing of around 5/1 that continues to hold steady. If she gets a favourable post draw, expect 3/1 on the day.
