2011 British Champions Day Preview

October 15th can't come any sooner and it will be very interesting to see how the English answer to the Breeders' Cup and the Arc Meeting goes over with the public. Several very exciting races are set to unfold on this massive day at Ascot and we'll be taking a look at the higher profile ante post contests in this one.

In the Champion Stakes it appears to be setting up nicely for So You Think. His price hovers around 2.35 on the exchanges at the moment and it took an immediate tumble as soon as punters saw his withdrawal confirmed for the Cox Plate in Australia. He is also being bandied about for the Breeders' Cup Classic but that may be a bit too much – particularly if he takes a kick at the Arc De Triomphe.

Both Midday and Twice Over (who has had a really solid season all things considered) can be backed around 4.5 but both could be higher on the day. Carlton House is in the mix for this one while Await The Dawn and Cape Blanco look the choices for those looking for a 10.0 – 15.0 selection.

Midday could also be entered in the Fillies and Mares Stakes and she's nearly odds-on to do so. Crystal Capella, Brushing and Antara are all in the mix here but Midday should be able to boss this one with Blue Bunting absent and seeking an Arc run a few weeks later. Sarafina is also contesting the race at Longchamp instead of this one.

Look for Meeznah to drop in price in the build-up to the race.

The really big one is going to be the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes where Frankel could be set to retain his undefeated record and make a statement about his claims for horse racing immortality. Currently he is trading at the microscopic 1.35 ante post to stay undefeated against a field that could include Immortal Verse, Cityscape and Excelebration. Goldikova had been tipped for this one but looks to be heading towards a prep in France and then a run in the Breeders' Cup Mile.

It will make Frankel's claims even more strong if Goldikova was to duck him and then win her fourth Breeders' Cup Mile.
