Frankel Holding at 1/3 for Queen Elizabeth II

Seldom has a colt captured the attention of many and, as an unbeaten bay seeks his ninth score on the bounce, punters have hammered him in the ante post market to the point where he is trading at a slim 1/3 margin. Frankel, one of the biggest flat racing stars to emerge in several years, is only set to face competition from two other contenders if the betting public are to be believed ahead of this weekend's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

Frankel is one of three Juddmonte entries for the 2011 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (a renamed British Champion Mile Stakes) at Ascot. Easily set to be the most widely-anticipated contest of the biggest day in British racing, Frankel's shot at greatness has only drawn two genuine spoilers amidst a field of ten.

Coming on the back of a legendary performance that literally ended the career of Canford Cliffs, the leading older miler in Europe, Frankel is expected to get plenty of support from is barn as they look to be sending out his exercise partner Bullet Train to set down an electric pace and open things up for Frankel.

Excelebration just scored a Group 1 level victory at Longchamp and he has looked genuinely progressive since finishing third to Frankel during his relatively troubled trip in the St James' Palace Stakes where Tom Queally cut him loose far too early. It will be interesting to see if connections adopt a different set of tactics than his usual stalking trip and maybe sit him just off Frankel for most of the contest before kicking on hard in the final three furlongs.

Immortal Verse represents the fillies in this one and the talented three-year-old showed her prowess at the distance when she captured the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Ascot. She headed back to France after that to beat the living legend Goldikova in a race she had won several times before. The daughter of Pivotal still has room to improve and it will be something even if she finished second behind Frankel.

Both Challengers trade at 6/1.
