Midday to Take On Boys in Coronation Cup

One of the premier five-year-old fillies being campaigned anywhere this flat season is the irrepressible Midday (Oasis Dream) who now looks poised for a very interesting fixture as connections have declared they may run her in the Coronation Cup. She has recently been campaigned exclusively against females during the entirety of 2010 and so far during 2011 but she has risen to the occasion and beaten boys before – conquering a top-class field at Group 1 level when she scored in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood in 2009.

Interestingly enough, Midday raced against current Godolphin globetrotter Debussy (Diesis) a few years back in the Blue Riband Trial Stakes and finished a very credible second.

To add further credibility to Midday's claims, Juddmonte has not officially declared her because they may enter Workforce (King's Best) instead of the Henry Cecil-trained mare. Workforce is amongst the best-ranked colts racing in Europe and to think that it's really one or the other for Juddmonte says a whole lot about Midday.

There is a distinct possibility that Workforce will be out on Thursday at Sandown as he contests the Brigadier Gerard Stakes and Midday remains the preferred option according to connections.

Midday got her five-year-old campaign off to a rollicking start at York last week when she conquered the Group 2 Middleton Stakes against fillies and mares while sent off as the 11/8 favourite. She finished a full two lengths ahead of her nearest competitor and also beat out 116 rated Music Show (Noverre) who has put in some very impressive shifts in the past but could only finish a tame fifth in the Middleton.

The 2011 Coronation Cup is set to run on the Epsom Oaks undercard June 3rd with plenty of extremely high-calibre contenders set to line up on the day. Punters should expect an extremely competitive field of 1m4f specialists as there remains fifteen still in the mix for this one.
